The cover image is first trimester cryosection stained for pan HLA-G with mAb 4H84–extravillous trophoblasts (EVCT) located distally to the mesenchymal chore (M) increase their invasive phenotype and express HLA-G. The highly proliferative extravillous trophoblasts next to the mesenchymal core are not labelled as is the case for villous cytotrophoblasts (VCT) and syncytiotrophoblasts (ST).
