About the Cover

Cover Figure

The cover image shows Rearrangements at the AZFc region of the human Y chromosome. ‘A’ depicts the prototype AZFc structure, with the various repeats shown in different colours, according to Kuroda-Kawaguchi et al. (2001). The locations of the STS markers are indicated. ‘B’ to ‘O’ depict the structures of the AZFc region caused by deletions, duplications and inversions as indicated. Structures ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘E’, ‘F’, ‘G’, ‘H’, ‘I’ and ‘L’ are derived from ‘A’. Structures ‘J’ and ‘K’ are derived from ‘I’, and structures ‘M’ and ‘O’ are derived from ‘L’. The structures of ‘J’ (the g1/g3 deletion) and ‘M’ (the b2/b3 deletion) are identical. Recombination could occur anywhere within the repeats shown within the boxes. The copy number of DAZ genes and the presence (+) or absence (–) of the STS markers for each structure are listed at the right. Of all the structures, only ‘G’, ‘H’ and ‘O’ have not been reported previously. (See Lin et al., pp. 347–351).
