Cover design LIF mutations in infertile women
The cover of Molecular Human Reproduction shows sequences within exon 3 of the leukaemia inhibitory factor (LIF) gene. In these infertile women, heterozygous gene mutations (both GÕA) are detected at positions 3400 (top) and 3424 (bottom). Heterozygous mutations within the coding regions of the LIF gene were detected in three infertile women, while no such mutations were detected in fertile controls. Reduced expression or biological activity of LIF as a result of these mutations may lead to failure of implantation. For further details, see pages 581-586.
