The front cover of Molecular Human Reproduction shows that immunostaining for leukocyte common antigen (CD45) and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) 9 is increased in cervical tissue after treatment with the anti-progesterone agent, mifepristone. The report on pages 541Ð548 indicates that mifepristone stimulates cervical ripening by causing an influx of inflammatory cells and by increasing expression of matrix metalloproteinases.
